The Write Stuff: Jody Bell
The six Longhorns seniors (Jody Bell, Kala Bowers, Jamie Carey, Annissa Hastings, Heather Schreiber and Mercedes Williams) are taking turns writing a weekly diary entry - The Write Stuff - from their own "Senior Slant" perspectives on topics galore! This week, Bell reflects back on the final regular season game – a win on the road against Texas A&M – and writes from Kansas City, Missouri where the Longhorns are preparing for the 2005 Phillips 66 Big 12 Tournament. Next on The Write Stuff, Heather Schreiber will write about the Big 12 tourney and talk about UT's preparations for more March Madness – the 2005 NCAA Championship. Hey y'all, Right now, we are on the bus going to watch the Big 12 Tournament's first-round game between Oklahoma and Texas A&M - and we play the winner tomorrow night. It doesn't really matter who we play (Oklahoma won the game), as we are prepared for anything and ready and excited to start play in the Big 12 Tournament. Since Mercedes wrote last week, we finished out the regular season at Texas A&M. We had some people really step up with the absence of Nina (Norman), particularly Annissa (Hastings), who REALLY came to play! Coco (Reed) played really well also. As expected, the Aggies came out aggressive as always, and we met their challenge and left College Station with the win. The rest of the week we spent preparing for our trip to Kansas City for the Big 12 Tournament. We also got to watch some Texas State Tournament high school games at the Erwin Center. It's always exciting for those young players to get out on the Erwin Center court and play in front of thousands and try and bring a state title back to their town or city. Everyone also spent last week trying to get ahead for all the class time we will miss while in Kansas City. Some of us were taking tests early if possible. Some people are going to have to take tests from the road while we are here. (Senior Associate AD for Student Affairs/Academic Services) Randa Ryan is here to coordinate it all. We are so fortunate to have her here with us, coordinating our study halls (we had study hall on the plane coming here today), coordinating our laptop computer time and administering tests. Right now as I write this, everyone is singing on the bus – everyone! Not just the world-famous (!) Mighty Clouds of Zion gospel group. We are pretty excited and ready to go! There is some sense of urgency, especially with the seniors right now. This is our last go-around and we are all preparing to bring another Big 12 Tournament championship back to Austin. It's really just been "business as usual around our team" this week. That's how it's been as we've been playing well down the stretch. We are taking care of our academics, are practicing hard and now we are here to win. If you are here in KC with us, thanks for the support. We hope the rest of you will watch on TV (FOX Sports Net) or listen on the radio (KVET Radio 1300 AM) as we play this week for the Big 12 championship! Hook 'Em
