Women's Basketball trio named to All-Big 12 teams

March 7, 2011

IRVING, Texas -- Three University of Texas players earned spots on the 2010-11 Phillips 66 All-Big 12 Women's Basketball teams, the league office announced Monday. The official All-Big 12 awards are selected by the league's head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.

Freshman guard Chassidy Fussell was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team and also a unanimous selection on the Big 12 All-Freshman Team. Senior guard Kathleen Nash picked up her third All-Big 12 Honorable Mention accolade in as many seasons, and junior guard Ashleigh Fontenette earned her second.

Fussell led the Longhorns in conference play with 17.8 ppg, a mark that ranked seventh-best overall in the Big 12 and second-best among league freshmen. She is the only freshman in the conference to rank in the top-three in her class in scoring (second), steals (1.50 spg, second), free throw percentage (.859, second) and rebounding (4.8 rpg, third) in all 16 regular-season league contests. Additionally, Fussell led UT in scoring in 11 league contests, including eight 20+ point games.

Nash led UT in rebounding with 7.6 rpg in conference contests and was third in scoring with 11.4 ppg. She notched a team-high five double-doubles during league play and became just the second player in Big 12 Conference history to record 1,400+ points, 850+ rebounds and 200+ 3FG in her collegiate career.

Fontenette joins Fussell and Nash as the only Longhorns to start all 16 conference games. She was the fourth-leading scorer for UT with 10.4 ppg and dished out a team-high 51 assists and averaged 5.1 rpg.

Texas starts its postseason run against Missouri on Tuesday, March 8 in the first round of the 2011 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship. The Longhorns tip at 5 p.m. CT at Municpal Auditorium in Kansas City.
