Women's Basketball starts Big 12 Conference tourney play Tuesday

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Texas women's basketball team begins its postseason action tonight (Tuesday, March 6) when the Longhorns square off against Missouri in the opening round of the 2007 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship, taking place in the Cox Convention Center.

The tourney runs from Tuesday-Thursday and Saturday, March 6-8 and 10.

Texas, 17-13, is the No. 7 seed, while Missouri (17-12) is the No. 10 seed, with both teams vying for a chance to advance to the Wednesday quarterfinals to face No. 2 seed Oklahoma (6 p.m).

The Texas team arrived in Oklahoma City on Tuesday afternoon and had a practice at the host site.

A win by Texas will also give UT head coach Jody Conradt her 900th career victory. A 900th win will put Conradt in elite collegiate basketball company, as only ONE other men's or women's collegiate hoops coach has reached that illustrious plateau -- Tennessee women's coach Pat Summitt, who currently has 940 career wins.

The women's championship -- which is approximately 2,000 seats shy of being a sellout in the 15,000-plus Cox Convention Center -- begins with first-round action on Tuesday, followed by quarterfinals on Wednesday, semifinals on Thursday and then the title game at 6 p.m. CT on Saturday.

The Texas-Missouri game will be broadcast on Time Warner Cable TV in the Austin area on Channel 77, and will be broadcast via radio on KVET Radio 1300 AM and on subscription-based Internet audio as well.
