March 4, 2013
IRVING, Texas -- The Big 12 Conference announced Monday the selection of Texas freshman center Imani McGee-Stafford as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Week. The voting was conducted by a panel of media covering Big 12 women's basketball.
The accolade is the sixth weekly honor for McGee-Stafford and her second in as many weeks. She earned previous recognition from the Big 12 Conference on Nov. 26, Jan. 28, Feb. 4, Feb. 11 and Feb. 25. This is also the eighth weekly honor for a Longhorn under first-year head coach Karen Aston, as sophomore forward Nneka Enemkpali was named Big 12 Player of the Week on Nov. 12 and Nov. 26.
McGee-Stafford averaged 15 points and nine rebounds in Texas’ games last week while shooting .636 (14-of-22) from the field. She posted her 12th double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds in a win over TCU. Against Oklahoma State, McGee-Stafford came within one block of tying the all-time freshman record of 69.
Texas concludes Big 12 Conference regular-season action Tuesday evening when it hosts West Virginia (7:30 p.m. CT, Longhorn Network).
