Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship bracket announced
March 4, 2012 IRVING, Texas -- The pairings for the 2012 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship have been set, conference officials announced Sunday evening. Texas (18-12, 8-10 Big 12) is the No. 8 seed in the tournament and will face No. 9-seed Texas Tech (18-12, 6-12 Big 12) in the first round on Wednesday, March 7 at 5 p.m. Central. Should Texas win its opening-round game against Texas Tech, the Longhorns would advance to play No. 1-seed Baylor (31-0, 18-0 Big 12) in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, March 8 at 1:30 p.m. Semifinal play is scheduled for Friday, March 9, while the championship game is slated for Saturday, March 10 at 11 a.m. Other seeds include No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 4 Iowa State, No. 5 Kansas State, No. 6 Kansas, No. 7 Oklahoma State and No. 10 Missouri. A draw was conducted to determine the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds between Oklahoma and Texas A&M as both teams had identical records in the four steps of the Championship tiebreaking procedure. Iowa State won the tiebreaker for the No. 4 seed after sweeping Kansas State in the regular season. The tiebreaker procedure was also necessary to determine seeds among Kansas, Oklahoma State and Texas. In a comparison of collective head-to-head records among those three teams, Kansas was 3-1, followed by Oklahoma State at 2-2 and Texas at 1-3. The Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship returns to Municipal Auditorium for the 11th time in Conference history. Kansas City hosted the first six women's postseason events from 1997-2002, in addition to the 2005, 2008-09 and 2011 championships. All-session tickets are $90 for lower-level seating and $70 for upper level. Single-session tickets are also on sale for $20 lower level and $15 upper level.
