Women's Basketball faces Iowa State in first round of Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship
DALLAS -- The Texas women's basketball team is the No. 8 seed at the upcoming Phillips 66 Big 12 Championships taking place Tuesday-Thursday and Saturday, March 7-9 and 11, taking place at Reunion Arena in Dallas. UT (13-14) faces No. 9 Iowa State (16-11)at noon Tuesday in first round action. Oklahoma became the first women's basketball team in Big 12 history to complete the conference season as an undefeated 16-0 while capturing the regular season title. The 2006 championship is the fourth for the Sooners. They also won outright titles in 2001 and 2002 and shared the championship in 2000 with Iowa State and Texas Tech. OU enters next week's 2006 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship as the No. 1 seed and earns a first-round bye. Other teams enjoying a bye are No. 2 seed Baylor, No. 3 seed Texas A&M and No. 4 seed Missouri. Texas A&M and Missouri finished in the top four of the conference standings for the first time in Big 12 history. Six different teams have won the previous nine Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championships. Iowa State, Oklahoma and Texas Tech have two titles each while Baylor, Colorado and Texas have one. Baylor won both of the 2005 Big 12 titles en route to the NCAA Championship. The eight teams playing in the first round on Tuesday are No. 5 seed Texas Tech, No. 6 seed Nebraska, No. 7 seed Kansas State, No. 8 seed Texas, No. 9 seed Iowa State, No. 10 seed Kansas, No. 11 seed Colorado and No. 12 seed Oklahoma State. Big 12 quarterfinal action gets underway on Wednesday with the semi-finals on Thursday and the final on Saturday. Games 5-11 will be televised live by FSN. The winner of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship. Tickets are still available by calling 214-373-8000. Tickets will also be sold at Reunion Arena beginning Monday. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. (CST) Monday and Friday and 10 a.m. to halftime of the last game on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. In addition, tickets are available at the American Airlines Center box office.
