The Write Stuff: Mercedes Williams
The six Longhorns seniors (Jody Bell, Kala Bowers, Jamie Carey, Annissa Hastings, Heather Schreiber and Mercedes Williams) are taking turns writing a weekly diary entry - The Write Stuff - from their own "Senior Slant" perspectives on topics galore! This week, Williams reflects back on Texas "Senior Night" which took place at the Erwin Center Saturday night (Feb. 26) as the Longhorns closed out the home schedule with a convincing 72-36 victory over Big 12 rival Oklahoma. Next week on The Write Stuff (week of March 7-11), Jody Bell will write from Kansas City, Missouri - site of the 2005 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship Tournament. Hello, This is Cedes checking in, and I would just like to say that I've enjoyed this year SO MUCH! I know more is in store for our team, but "Senior Night" was both fun and very emotional. It feels weird to write that it was my last home game, because I don't know how I'm going to feel once I graduate and am no longer playing basketball. My mom, brother and son Markeis were at the Oklahoma game as well as my pastor and his wife (Fred and Michelle Moore) and some friends from church. It meant a lot to have them there sharing the night with me. Overall in these last few games and wins over Oklahoma State, Colorado and Oklahoma, we have trying to maintain our focus on what we need to do as team and not over look anyone - regardless of their record. This week we are getting ready to go to Texas A&M for tomorrow night's game (Wednesday, March 2, 7 p.m. Central). We do not take the Aggies lightly, because they always are ready to play against us, and we don't want that game to cost us a chance at a possible tie for the Big 12 Championship and a good seed in the upcoming Big 12 Tournament. Once again, I would like to thank all our fans for all your love and support at Saturday night's "Senior Night" game as well as throughout the season. We really appreciate it!!!! Hook 'Em,
