DALLAS -- Next week, the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau wants people to "Think Big 12" ... as in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship. The Big 12 Conference (and tournament) are celebrating their 10th anniversary this season.
The tourney takes place Tuesday-Thursday and Saturday, March 7-9 and 11, at Reunion Arena in Dallas. The championship, which was held at Reunion Arena in 2003 and 2004, was contested in Kansas City last year and returns to Dallas for 2006.
The seedings and pairing for the 12-team women's tourney will be announced late Thursday evening (March 2), following the conclusion of the Big 12's final night of regular season games.
The 10th anniversary tournament tips off to great fanfare in a noon (CT) game at Reunion Arena on Tuesday, March 7, and culminates in a 6 p.m. championship game televised by FSN on Saturday, March 11. The Big 12 champion receives an automatic bid to the 2006 NCAA Championship.
Fans and media can get a preview of some of the teams in this year's tournament by attending open-practice sessions at Reunion Arena on Monday, March 6. Each team will hit the court for hour-long sessions, which start at 11 a.m. and conclude at 7 p.m., with that schedule to be announced later this week.
The Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau's goal is to provide many highlights surrounding the court action next week. Before, during and after tournament games, fans can participate in the Phillip's 66 VictoryFest, a free, interactive, fan-friendly basketball celebration featuring pep rallies, alumni gatherings, tournament-watching parties, children's activities and more in Dallas' historic West End Entertainment District.
University of Texas fans who have not yet purchased tickets may buy them through Ticketmaster.com or by calling Ticketmaster at 214-373-8000. Prices are: $75 per all-session pass; $15 for a single reserved session ticket; and $10 per each general admission session.
