Women's Basketball's Kristen Nash to return for fifth season
Feb. 26, 2010
AUSTIN, Texas -- Head coach Gail Goestenkors has announced that senior forward Kristen Nash will return for the 2010-11 Texas Women’s Basketball season. Nash, who will graduate in May 2010 with a degree in corporate communications, received a medical redshirt for the 2006-07 season after suffering a season-ending stress fracture of the right foot. “We’re so happy that Kristen has decided to come back for her fifth year,” Goestenkors said. “We feel like she’s really just beginning to blossom as a player. Returning next season also affords her the opportunity to work on her postgraduate degree, which is another goal Kristen has set for herself.” Nash has seen action in all 27 contests this year for the Longhorns, including her first career start against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Jan. 2). She also started in games against UT Arlington (Jan. 5) and Texas A&M (Jan. 9). The forward from Plano, Texas, has doubled her minutes (15.1 mpg), rebounds (4.4 rpg), steals (10), assists (16) and blocks (17) from her junior year. Nash recorded her first career double-double against UT Arlington with 10 points and 13 rebounds, and has led UT in rebounding in three competitions this season. “We expect this to be a wonderful opportunity for Kristen and Kathleen (Nash) to end their playing careers at Texas together. Next season, these sisters will serve together as our senior leaders,” Goestenkors added. The Longhorns will now return seven letterwinners and three starters next season. The 2010-11 Texas roster is projected to be 11 players deep with the addition of signees Chelsea Bass (Houston, Texas), Chassidy Fussell (Union City, Tenn.), Anne Marie Hartung (Bowling Green, Mo.) and Tiffany Moore (Frisco, Texas).
