UPDATED: High school playoffs conclude for Women's Basketball early signees
Feb. 25, 2013 Women's Basketball early signee Brianna Taylor and the Spring Dekaney Wildcats advanced through four games of the 2013 UIL Girls’ Basketball playoffs before losing in the Regional Final game on Saturday in Waco.
The Spring Dekaney Wildcats faced Dallas Skyline in the Girl’s Basketball Class-5A Regional Semifinal on Friday, Feb. 22. Dekaney advanced to the Regional Final after winning 48-45. Pflugerville, who never ranked lower than No. 2 throughout the season, ended Dekaney's playoff run with a 68-59 victory. Taylor and the Spring Dekaney Wildcats finished the year with a final record of 34-4. Brianna Taylor and Lilley VanderZee, two of the four early signees for Texas Women's Basketball, competed in the Regional Quarterfinal round of the 2013 UIL Girl's Basketball playoffs earlier this week. However, only one will advance to the Regional Semifinal game this Friday. On Tuesday night, Taylor and the Spring Dekaney Wildcats faced Klein Collins in the Class-5A Regional Quarterfinals. Spring Dekaney came out victorious 57-42. Taylor and the Wildcats will advance to the Regional Semifinal game and play Dallas Skyline on Friday, Feb. 22. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. in the Ferrell Special Events Center at Baylor. VanderZee and the Granbury Lady Pirates played against Aledo Monday night in the Class-4A Regional Quarterfinals, and their playoff run came to an end. Aledo won 55-37. Aledo will face Canyon High School in the Regional Semifinal. The Granbury Lady Pirates finished the season with a 22-14 record. __________________________________________________________________________________ All four of Texas Women's Basketball signees' high school teams defeated their opponents in the first round of the 2013 UIL Girl's Basketball playoffs last week. Two of the four incoming freshmen - Brianna Taylor and Lilley VanderZee - advanced through both rounds and are now competing in the Regional Quarterfinals. Taylor and the Spring Dekaney Wildcats toppled Conroe Oak Ridge, 83-28, to open their Class-5A playoff run last week. With the victory, the Wildcats advanced to the area round of playoffs and beat Round Rock Stony Point High School, 51-50. Stony Point led 48-43 with 4:05 remaining, but Taylor and company rallied to get the one-point win. Spring Dekaney will face Klein Collins on Tuesday, Feb. 19, in the Class-5A Regional Quarterfinals. VanderZee and the Granbury Lady Pirates defeated Cleburne High School 56-33 in the bidistrict round of Class-4A playoffs last Tuesday night. VanderZee scored 12 points and pulled in eight rebounds against Cleburne. On Friday night, the Lady Pirates faced Wichita Falls Rider High School in the area round of playoffs and were again victorious, 54-46. Granbury will play Aledo High School tonight, Feb. 18, in the Regional Quarterfinal round. Nekia Jones and the Beaumont Ozen Panthers defeated Humble Kingwood Park, 48-34, in the opening bidistrict round of Class-4A playoffs last week. Jones scored 11 points in the contest. The No. 4 state-ranked Panthers then faced the Pflugerville Connally Cougars in the Class-4A area round last Friday. Connally ended Beaumont Ozen's season by beating the Panthers 47-43. Jones and Beaumont Ozen finished the season with a 27-4 record. Kelsey Lang and the Woodland Highlanders cruised to a 67-38 victory over Spring in the Class-5A bidistrict round of playoffs last Monday. Lang hit 9-of-10 shots and drained all four of her attempted free throws. She finished with a game-high 22 points. The Highlanders then faced Austin Bowie last Thursday in the area round of playoffs. The Woodland Highlanders fell to Bowie 56-50. Lang finished the contest with 20 points. The Highlanders ended the season 28-8. The regular season of high school basketball has come to an end and the playoffs are set to begin tonight. All four Texas Women's Basketball early signees for the Class of 2013 and their teams have advanced to the postseason. Nekia Jones, a 5-11 forward, and the Beaumont Ozen Panthers finished the regular season 26-3. The Panthers finished ranked No. 4 in the Class-4A standings in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll. Jones and Beaumont Ozen will face Humble Kingwood Park in the first round of Class-4A playoffs. Kelsey Lang and the Woodland Highlanders finished their regular season 27-7. Lang, a 6-4 post, helped guide the Highlanders to their undefeated district record of 12-0. Lang and the Highlanders will face Spring High School in the opening round of Class-5A playoffs. Brianna Taylor, a 5-9 guard for Spring Dekaney High School, helped her team get to a final regular season record of 30-3. The Dekaney Wildcats defeated all of their districts opponents and finished a perfect 16-0 in district play. Taylor and the Wildcats will face Conroe Oak Ridge to begin their Class-5A playoff endeavor. Lilley VanderZee, Granbury High School's 6-4 post, helped the Lady Pirates finish 20-13 in the regular season. VanderZee and company finished district play with a 12-2 record. The Lady Pirates will face Cleburne High School in the first round of Class-4A playoffs.
