Women's Basketball squares off at Oklahoma State in 2 p.m. game Saturday
STILLWATER, Okla. -- The Texas women's basketball team looks to move back into the winning column Saturday as the Longhorns (12-11, 6-6 in the Big 12) face Oklahoma State in a 2 p.m. Big 12 contest at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater.
The Cowgirls stand 6-17 overall and are winless (0-12) in Big 12 competition.
The game is not televised, but will be carried live on KVET Radio 1300 AM in Central Texas and via the Internet at TexasSports.com at subscription-based .
Texas has been led by the play of senior point guard Nina Norman the past two games, with Norman hitting for a career-best 24 points in games against No. 4 Connecticut and No. 9 Oklahoma. Norman is averaging 10.8 ppg overall - tied for second in Longhorns scoring with freshman guard Erika Arriaran - and is collecting 12.0 points and 3.0 assists in Big 12 games.
The Longhorns are expected to see the return of leading scorer, rebounder and steals leader Tiffany Jackson. The 6-3 junior (14.4 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 2.7 spg) has missed the last three games with an ankle injury, but has been cleared to play. Her status will be determined at game time, but the All-American has practiced with the team the last two days.
In Jackson's absense, the Horns have dropped the three games she has missed, and that three-game losing streak is the longest in in five years going back to 2001-02 when UT dropped four consecutive games from January 26-February 6; that year, UT went 22-10 and advanced to the NCAA Final 16.
Following Saturday's game at OSU, the Longhorns take to the road for the last time in regular season action. On Wednesday, Feb. 22, UT faces No. 21 Texas A&M in the State Farm Lone Star Showdown at 7 p.m. at Reed Arena in College Station.
There will be a fan bus, sponsored by Todd Charters, for any Longhorns fans interested in attending the game.
