AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas sophomore guard Kathleen Nash (Plano, Texas) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 6 first team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday. Nash was joined on the five-person University Division first team by Jada Frazier (New Orleans), Amy Beggin (New Mexico), Amber Jackson (North Texas) and Danielle Robinson (Oklahoma).
As a first-team all-district selection, Nash automatically is included on the Academic All-America ballot. The Academic All-America teams for women's basketball are scheduled to be released on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
District 6 includes all Division I schools in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. To be nominated for all-district consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for her career. No athlete is eligible until she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing.
The finance major with a 3.54 cumulative GPA is the leading scorer and rebounder for the Longhorns this season with 14.3 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game. Nash has posted three double-doubles in 20 games, including her most recent 11-point, 10-rebound effort at then-No. 4/3 Baylor on Feb. 1. She posted a career-high 27 points against then-No. 21/21 Arizona State on Dec. 18, and also went a perfect 12-of-12 from the free-throw line in that contest to tie Texas' all-time record for best FT percentage in a single game (12-of-12, 1.000 percent). On the season, Nash has led UT in scoring five times and in rebounding in nine games.
