Big 12 showdown tonight between Women's Basketball and Baylor
AUSTIN, Texas -- This week of Big 12 women's basketball play could be classified as "Separation Week" in the closely-contested race for the league regular season title. With that in mind, the Texas-Baylor contest on Wednesday night (Jan. 24) in Austin carries big significance. The No. 24 Longhorns, 14-5 overall, host the No. 13 Lady Bears (16-3) at 7 p.m. at the Frank Erwin Center. The Longhorns are coming off Sunday's 64-45 upset win over then-No. 17 Texas A&M in front of a vocal crowd of 6,400 at the Erwin Center. Texas and Baylor enter with 3-2 marks in Big 12 action and are in a three-way tie for third in the standings (with Texas A&M). Oklahoma (6-0) and Nebraska (4-1) are perched at the top two spots as the conference heads into it's fourth week of competition. Following behind the 3-2 clubs are Texas Tech and Iowa State, both 3-3; Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Colorado all sit at 2-3 in the league and are followed by Missouri (1-5) and Kansas (0-5). Tickets to all Texas Basketball home games may be purchased online at TexasBoxOffice.com; by calling 800-982-BEVO or 512-471-3333; in person at any Texas Box Office outlet, including Austin-area H-E-B stores and the UT Athletics Ticket Office in Bellmont Hall (Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. CT); and in person one hour prior to game time at the Frank Erwin Center box office. There are several special ticket promotions surrounding the Texas-Baylor contest. It is "Government Worker Night", where all government employees will receive a discounted reserved ticket. Group packages are also available at an additional discount. For more information call 512-232-3865 or email UTHoopsCentral@athletics.utexas.edu. In the "O-Zone Giveaways", the UT student promotion, student fans in attendance have a chance to earn gift certificates (a $25 Maudie's Tex-Mex gift card, $20 Hyde Park Grill gift cards and $50 Lowe's gift card). Students are encouraged to wear their Stampede or O-Zone shirt to every women's and men's home basketball game for a chance to win the prizes.
