Jackson earns Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor

DALLAS -- Texas women's basketball 6-4 junior forward Tiffany Jackson was named Philips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday, following consecutive double figure scoring and rebounding in UT victories over Nebraska and Kansas State. Voting was conducted by a media voting panel for games played from Jan. 16-22.

Jackson, from Dallas Texas and Duncanville High School, earned her seventh Big 12 weekly honor in her career, and her first in 2005-06. She is the first UT player to claim Big 12 weekly honors this year.

Oklahoma's 6-4 freshman post Courtney Paris was named Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this year as she averaged 20 points, 15 rebounds and 5.5 blocks against Texas Tech and No. 8 Baylor.

Jackson picked up her third and fourth double-doubles in a row last week while leading 10-6 Texas to its third and fourth consecutive wins as the Longhorns moved to 4-2 in Big 12 action.

Jackson averaged 22.5 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and 3.5 steals in the wins over Nebraska (70-61) and Kansas State (71-70 in overtime). In the Big 12 stats, Jackson is one of only three players (Baylor's Sophia Young and Paris) to be averaging a double-double in league play. Jackson has 17.0 pppg and 11.3 rpg in the league, and is first in steals with 3.8 steals per game average.

Against Nebraska, Jackson had 22 points and a game-high 12 boards to go along with four assists and four steals. She collected 23 points and a game-high 14 rebounds with three assists and two blocks against Kansas State, and brought UT back from three second-half deficits against the Wildcats. In the second half, KSU led 38-34 with 16:50 to go before the Longhorns went on a 13-3 run, highlighted by six points and a block and rebound from Jackson, to take a 47-41 lead. In the final minutes, KSU had re-taken the the lead, 62-60,with 1:07 to go. On UT's next possession, the Horns had four shots at the basket down low before Jackson grabbed the rebound and had a putback to tie the game at 62-62 with 38 seconds left on the clock, sending the game into OT.

Jackson also leads the Longhorns in overall scoring (15.1 ppg), rebounding (9.1) steals (51, 3.2) and is second in blocks (27, 1.7 bpg). She has been in double-figure scoring 13 consecutive games (14 overall) and has been UT's leading scorer eight times, leading rebounder 11 times, and has four or more steals six times.

Jackson and Paris will be the featured frontcourt players when Texas and No. 13 Oklahoma (15-4, 5-0) square off Wednesday evening (Jan. 25) in a 7 p.m. game at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma. The game will air live on CSTV (College Sports TV). The contest also will be broadcast on KVET Radio (1300 AM) in the Central Texas region, and will be broadcast via the internet at TexasSports.com or at SportsRadio1300.com.
