Women's Basketball hosts K-State today in Big 12 women's hoops showdown at 1 p.m.
AUSTIN, Texas -- One of the most competitive Big 12 women's basketball series is renewed this afternoon (Sunday, Jan. 22) when Texas hosts Kansas State in a 1 p.m. Conference game at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin. The UT-KSU series has been competitive with the last four games in the series decided by a total of 11 points. Texas leads the series, 8-7. Both the Longhorns (9-6) and K-State (13-3) are tied in the Big 12 standings with 3-2 records; whomever wins today's game will move into a tie for second-place in the league standings with Texas A&M and Missouri (both 4-2). Oklahoma sits in first place at 5-0. Texas' next victory will move head coach Jody Conradt into a tie with Dean Smith for No. 2 honors in all-time college basketball wins. Conradt has 878 wins, Smith 879. Tennessee's Pat Summit stands first in all-time victories with 900. Texas brings a 29-game conference homecourt win streak into today's game, which dates back to the 2001-02 season. UT's last Big 12 loss at home was to Kansas State on Jan. 30, 2001 when the No. 9 Wildcats posted an 80-76 double OT win over the No. 14 Horns. To date this year, Texas is 6-2 at home. Texas is led in scoring by junior F Tiffany Jackson (14.5 ppg), freshman G Erika Arriaran (10.9) and senior PG Nina Norman (9.3 ppg) ... Jackson paces the club in rebounding (8.7 ppg) and steals (48, 3.2 spg), while Arriaran is first in assists (34, 2.3 apg) and 3-pointers made (20). Sunday's game has several ticket promotions. It is "Nike Day", with fans wearing any Nike apparel receiving $2 off one general admission ticket. In addition, the "Ultimate Assist" promotion continues where fans redeeming specially-marked Sprite cans at the Erwin Center south box office one hour prior to tip-off for half-price mezzanine general admission to the game (limit of two general admission tickets per can redeemed). Additionally, UT students have an opportunity to win Nike apparel and a Nike MP3 player as well as a chance to win PowerBar prize packs. (Students are asked to just wear their O-Zone shirts, and prizes will be awarded pre-game.)
