• Seniors Leading on Offense and Defense ... Seniors are leading Texas on the offensive and defensive ends of the court through two conference games. Ashleigh Fontenette is pacing UT’s offense with 13.5 ppg and Ashley Gayle is pulling down a team-high 9.5 rpg. Yvonne Anderson is dishing out 4.0 apg since beginning conference action.
• Texas All-time vs. Defending National Champions ... Wednesday’s contest at Texas A&M marks the 23rd time Texas has competed against a defending national champion. The Longhorns last toppled the previous season champion on Dec. 14, 2008, when they handed Tennessee a 73-59 loss in Austin. UT is 6-16 all-time when facing the defending national champions.
• Nationally Ranked Shot Blocking ... In the latest edition of the NCAA Division I Rankings (Jan. 9), Texas is second nationally in blocked shots per game (7.6). Senior post Ashley Gayle ranks fourth among all individuals with 3.9 bpg.

Wednesday’s contest marks the 82nd meeting between in-state foes Texas and Texas A&M. Texas holds a 58-23 advantage in the all-time series, including a 23-11 mark when the teams meet in College Station.

State Farm Lone Star Showdown
The 2011-12 academic season marks the eighth year of the State Farm Lone Star Showdown, the all-sports athletics competition between Texas and Texas A&M. UT has won five of the previous seven Showdowns. The Longhorns claimed the inaugural Showdown in 2004-05 by a 14.5-4.5 point margin, recorded a 14.0-5.0 victory in 2005-06 and posted a 10.5-8.5 win in 2006-07. The Aggies registered a 10.5-8.5 victory in 2007-08 and the two schools tied (9.5-9.5) in 2008-09 (A&M retained the trophy based on outright win in 2007-08). UT then recorded a 10.0-9.0 victory in 2009-10 and retained the trophy last season in a 9.5-tie between the two schools. Texas holds a 5.0-1.0 lead in points in this year’s Showdown standings heading into Wednesday’s contest in College State where the winning school receives 0.5 points. In order to win the Showdown, a school must acquire 10.0 points during the year.
Big-Time Bass
Sophomore guard Chelsea Bass scored a team-high 12 points, including a career-best three 3-point field goals, in Texas’ 70-51 loss at Oklahoma State (Jan. 7). Bass is averaging 6.5 ppg and 4.5 rpg in Big 12 Conference games.
