No. 23 Women's Basketball opens Big 12 action at Kansas
AUSTIN, Texas -- On Tuesday, Jan. 3, UT women's basketball head coach Jody Conradt's Longhorns will face Kansas in the Big 12 Conference season opener for both squads. Tipoff is at 6 p.m., and the game will air on College Sports TV and also will be broadcast on KVET Radio in the Central Texas area and by subscription on the internet. In the Central Texas/Austin area, CSTV is found on the following cable outlets: on Time Warner Cable digital TV (Channel 438); on DIRECTV (Channel 610) and on DISH Network (Channel 152). The Longhorns, ranked No. 23 in this week's AP Poll released Monday afternoon, stand 6-4 on the year, while Kansas, at 11-0, is one of seven undefeated teams in the nation. However, the Jayhawks have not left the friendly confines of their home court - the legendary Allen Fieldhouse, as all 11 of their games have been on that home court. With one more win, Texas head coach Jody Conradt will tie legendary men's coach Adolph Rupp for the No. 3 spot in all-time college basketball victories. Conradt has 875 career wins, while Rupp has 876. With four more wins, Conradt will tie Dean Smith for No. 2 in all-time college victories. This week, according to the CollegeRPI.com, UT's schedule is rated the SECOND toughest in the nation while the Horns are ranked No. 11 overall in the RPI. Kansas stands No. 72 in the RPI, and its schedule is ranked No. 278. Of last week's AP Top 25 teams, seven are on Texas' regular season schedule: No. 1 Tennessee, No. 2 Duke, No. 4 Baylor, No. 8 UConn, No. 9 Rutgers, No. 16 New Mexico and No. 20 Oklahoma. Texas owns a six-game win streak in the series with Kansas, and UT holds a 10-5 all-time edge in the series. Fans in the Austin area are invited to a game "watch party" at Plucker's Restaurant at the Rio Grande (central campus) location. Fans are asked to arrive 15-20 minutes early to sit together and view the Longhorns and Jayhawks as they open up league competition on CSTV.
