Women's Basketball tops Alcorn State, 74-42

AUSTIN, Texas - As Ashley Gayle became the Texas Longhorns' all-time leader in career blocks, the Texas Women's Basketball team used a strong defensive showing to defeat Alcorn State, 74-42, on Sunday afternoon at the Frank Erwin Center.

Gayle finished with seven total blocks, but her first of the game at the 18:04 first half mark, pushed her in front of Ellen Bayer for the program record. Gayle now has 296 career blocks.

Alcorn State made just 15 field goals and was limited to 21 percent shooting, as the Longhorns controlled both halves of play.

UT opened the game on a 21-0 run, as Alcorn State was scoreless for the first 8:23.

Yvonne Anderson led all scorers with 19 points, marking the 29th double-digit scoring effort of her career. Chassidy Fussellchipped in 14 points.

In addition, Gayle pulled in a season-high 13 rebounds for the 17th double-digit rebounding game of her career.

UT travels to Honolulu, Hawaii for the Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Showdown. The Longhorns face Virginia on Friday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m.
