Longhorns hold Orange-White Game

AUSTIN, Texas -- Sophomore forward Tiffany Jackson (Dallas, Texas/Duncanville HS) scored a game-high 19 points and added a game-best 10 rebounds, to lead the White Team to a 65-63 win over the Orange Team in the annual Texas Women's Basketball Orange-White Game (intrasquad scrimmage) held Wednesday evening at the Erwin Center. The team played eight four-minute periods in the scrimmage.

Leading the way for the Orange squad were the senior forward duo of Heather Schreiber (Windthorst, Texas/Windthorst HS) and Mercedes Williams (Houston, Texas/Westfield HS). Schreiber had 18 points and seven boards, while Williams finished with 16 points, six rebounds and four steals.

Mieloszynska (Poznan, Poland/Illinois Central College), making her first public appearance for UT, collected 15 points on six-for-nine shooting, including a three-for-five effort from 3-point range.

The other top performer for the winning White squad was junior guard Coco Reed (Houston, Texas/Jersey Village HS) with 12 points, as she went six-for-10 from the field.

Both teams shot 52 percent from the floor, with the White team going 26-for-40 and the Orange going 25-for-48 from the field. The Orange squad, led by Schreiber's seven boards, held a 28-23 rebounding edge.

The Longhorns open up preseason exhibition play next Wednesday, Nov. 3 when UT hosts Trinity University (San Antonio), the defending NCAA Division III champions, at 7 p.m. at the Erwin Center. The Longhorns' second and final exhibition will be against TTT-Riga of Latvia at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

ORANGE-WHITE SCRIMMAGE POST-GAME QUOTES
Head Coach Jody Conradt
"Well, tonight was a good starting point, but it is obvious that we still have lots of work to do. We are not a well-oiled machine at all, particularly with our new offense. We know that will take time. I didn't expect us to be as patient as we needed to be tonight on setting screens and moving in the motion offense, and I thought we dribbled too much at the perimeter. But, this gives us things to look at on film with the players over the next few days.

"I thought Heather and Tiffany played very well at times, Mercedes (Williams) gave us some strong minutes, and we saw how good a shooter Daria is tonight. Overall, like I said, this is a good starting point for us."

Senior Guard Jamie Carey
"It was great. It was fun to get out here and put on a uniform again. Overall, I think the effort was good and we had some fun. So, I think we learned a few things that we can take to the practice court tomorrow."

Senior Forward Heather Schreiber
"We enjoy that pressure. We would rather be picked first than last. We are excited about the opportunity because we know that all the teams will be that much more excited to play us."
