Women's Basketball downs Missouri, 75-62
Feb. 28, 2012
COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Texas Women's Basketball team maintained its late-season momentum and had two players reach career milestones as the Longhorns downed the Missouri Tigers, 75-62, on Tuesday night at Mizzou Arena. Senior Yvonne Anderson and sophomore Chassidy Fussell both eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in their collegiate careers in the win. Anderson became the 37th player in Texas history to do so with a layup at the 17:17 mark of the second half. Fussell joined her as the 38th off a three-pointer with 6:03 remaining in the game. It was UT's second victory in as many Big 12 games and only its second road win of the conference season. Anderson and Fussell finished with 12 and 16 points, respectively. Sophomore Chelsea Bass recorded a season-high 18 points, including four three-pointers, to lead all Texas scorers. Freshman Ronisha Major added seven rebounds. The Longhorns got off to a slow start, allowing Missouri to build a 15-4 lead early in the first half spurred by an 8-0 run. Texas fought back with an 11-3 run of its own to cut the lead to one but entered halftime down four. UT picked up the pace in the second half, opening with an 18-6 run and jumping in front for good with just over 16 minutes left. The Longhorns led by as many as 19. Texas had trouble shutting down senior forward BreAnna Brock, who recorded a first-half double-double. Brock continued her tear out of halftime, scoring nine of Missouri's first 10 second-half points. She finished with 24 in addition to her 16 rebounds. Kyley Simmons chipped in 11 points for the Tigers. Christine Flores, who averaged 20 points in the last three games, was held without a field goal. The Longhorns return home to wrap up Big 12 play against the Texas A&M Aggies on Sunday, March 4, in the final chapter of the State Farm Lonestar Showdown. Tipoff is set for 12:00 p.m. Central.
