Women's Basketball drops 65-45 decision to Kansas State
Feb. 18, 2012 MANHATTAN, Kan. -- The Kansas State Wildcats halted the Texas Women's Basketball team's Big 12 momentum and held the Longhorns to a season-low scoring total in a 65-45 victory on Saturday evening at Bramlage Coliseum. Ashleigh Fontenette was the only Longhorn to reach double figures, leading UT with 10 points and adding five assists and four steals. The teams exchanged leads early on, but Kansas State broke the game open with just more than seven minutes to play, closing out the first half with a seven-point lead. The Wildcats carried the momentum into the second half, quickly widening the gap to 20 points. Tasha Dickey keyed the run with 10 points in the first nine minutes. Chelsea Bass saw her first game action for the Longhorns since Jan. 28 and scored seven second-half points, but Texas would get no closer than 11. Dickey led all scorers with 18. Brittany Chambers and Jalana Childs fortified the Kansas State attack with 15 and 14 points, respectively, and Mariah White added 10 rebounds and eight assists. Anne Marie Hartung recorded nine points and seven rebounds for Texas. The Longhorns shot just 31.5 percent from the field.
