Longhorns fall to Texas Tech in Lubbock
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) -- Alesha Robertson scored 22 of her game-high 26 points in the second half and No. 13 Texas Tech defeated 12th-ranked Texas 79-62 Wednesday night.
Tech's lead dipped below six points just once in the second half, when Kala Bowers hit an 8-foot jumper to bring Texas to 46-42 with 13:54 remaining. Robertson scored five points on Tech's next two possessions to put the Lady Raiders back up by nine at 51-42.
With 3:05 remaining in the game, Erin Grant scored with 2 seconds left on the shot clock, capping a 9-2 Tech (12-2, 3-0 Big 12) run that gave the Lady Raiders a 71-54 lead.
Tiffany Jackson led Texas (8-5, 1-2) with 20 points -- 18 in the second half -- while Bowers scored 14.
Cisti Greenwalt scored 14 of her 18 points in the first half, while Chesley Dabbs scored 19 for the Lady Raiders.
The Longhorns have lost consecutive Big 12 games since the 2001-02 season, when the team lost four in a row. The 17-point victory is the largest win by Tech over Texas since 2000.
I was extremely disappointed in our defense tonight. We got beat on penetration and had no help on the backside. It was a meltdown on defense and we've got to go home and get back to work. It would have been really really great to start our league play and go into Baylor or Tech and steal a win. But, you are supposed to win at home, aren't you? That said, we didn't compete as we should have tonight."
