Tenth season at Texas

Cathy McDonald, former Longhorns guard who played from 1980-83, begins her 10th year overall as Associate AD/Director of Women's Basketball Operations and her fifth year serving with Gail Goestenkors.

McDonald has an extensive history of collegiate coaching experience, having served as assistant basketball coach/ recruiting coordinator at The Ohio State University from 1997-2002. At OSU, the Buckeyes went to the 1999 NCAA Tournament and won the 2001 WNIT Championship. Two of OSU's recruiting classes were ranked in the national top 10 during her tenure.

Prior to her work at Ohio State, McDonald was assistant basketball coach at three other universities: Texas A&M (1989-94), Rice University (1995-96) and San Diego State (1996-97). SDSU went 23-7 her only year there with a NCAA Tournament berth. San Diego State had the nation's top-ranked defense that year, holding the opponents to 51.2 ppg.

Playing for former UT Hall of Fame coach Jody Conradt from 1980-83, McDonald was a part of three top national finishes. The 1980-81 Longhorns finished third in the AIAW Regional Championships; the 1981-82 squad was AIAW National Championship runner-up; and the 1982-83 team went to the NCAA Final Eight and finished the year ranked third nationally.

The three-year Texas letterwinner graduated from UT in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in education. She began her collegiate career at Angelina College (Lufkin, Texas) in 1979-80 before transferring to Texas. McDonald went on to receive her Master's Degree in kinesiology from Texas A&M in 1991.

McDonald was an All-State guard at Texas powerhouse Victoria High School basketball program. McDonald was part of the Victoria squad which won the 1979 State 5A title after being state runner-up in 1976 and 1978.
