Relay victory highlights day two for UT at Texas Relays
AUSTIN, Texas -- The top-ranked Texas women’s track and field squad captured the 4x800-meter relay to highlight day two of the 79th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays Thursday at UT’s Mike A. Myers Stadium.
The Longhorns’ quartet of senior Dee Dee Cortez (Mission, Texas), sophomore Temeka Kincy (Indianapolis, Ind.), freshman Janine Davis (Elizabeth, N.J.) and freshman Katara Rosby (Baton Rouge, La.) claimed the relay victory in 8:45.68, outdistancing second-place Mississippi State by nearly two seconds.
In other action, senior Melaine Walker clocked a qualifying time in the 400-meter hurdles, completing the event in 56.73. Senior Sheretta Jones clocked 59.38, also advancing to Saturday’s finals.
Junior Landra Stewardson (Detroit, Texas) led the UT contingent in the 5000 meters, placing ninth in 18:39.03.
