2006 79th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays notes: Day two

Men’s 5000: Okello defends the title he won in 2005, leading from start to finish.

Decathlon: With one of the greatest early-season performances in decathlon history, Hardee breaks the collegiate record by two points. He originally was given a score of 8462 points, but officials reread the 100-meters photo from Wednesday and Hardee was given a time of 10.35 rather than the 10.36 originally recorded, thus raising his score by three points. He smashes the meet and stadium record and moves to #8 on the U.S. all-time list. His previous personal best was 8041, set here in finishing second at the 2004 NCAA championships for Mississippi State. Kilmartin sets a personal best in second place.

Heptathlon:  Julie Pickler moves up one spot from 2005, when she finished second (with 5414 points) to twin sister Diana. Three of the top four finishers met the automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA championships. Dupree is a redshirt at UT-San Antonio, and was fourth last year for the Roadrunners.

Men’s 4x800:  Defending champ USC led through the first three legs, splitting 1:50.7, 1:48.3 and 1:51.1. Prince Mumba of Oral Roberts split 1:46.7 on the anchor leg to grab the win as USC’s anchor split 1:48.5.
ORU sets a stadium record.

Men’s Hammer: Jullien just misses his personal best as he wins his first Relays title. Owens sets a PR in second place. Last year’s champion, Ybarra, sets a personal best competing unattached.

Women’s 4x800: Texas splits --  Cortez 2:08.8, Kincy 2:10.2, Davis 2:13.2, Rosby 2:13.5. Texas led from start to finish, moving up from a third-place finish in 2005.
