Men's Cross Country has three named to Academic All-Big 12 team

IRVING, Texas -- Texas senior Kyle Miller, junior Habben Berhane and redshirt freshman Rob Wetzel were named to the 2008 Academic All-Big 12 Men's Cross Country team, the conference office has announced. Miller and Berhane were both first-team selections, while Wetzel made the second team. Miller, an education/youth and community studies major, is a two-time All-Big 12 performer in cross country. He also earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors during the 2008 track and field season. A finance major, Berhane is a three-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll. He was UT's top finisher at the Pre-NCAA Meet on Oct. 18, placing 66th. Wetzel, an education major, earned his first Academic All-Big 12 award. He finished as UT's fifth finisher at the Pre-NCAA Meet. To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his/her team's scheduled contests. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible. Next up, the Horns will travel to Ames, Iowa for the Big 12 Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1. The event will begin with the women's 6,000-meter race at 10 a.m. CT, followed by the men's 8,000-meter run at 11 a.m.
