AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas men's cross country team will travel to College Station, Texas for the Big 12 Championships on Saturday at the Pebble Creek Country Club. The men's race is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. It is the second time the 8K race will take place in College Station with the last time coming in 1999 when it was held at the Texas A&M Golf Course. Texas finished fourth overall at the Big 12 Championships in that 1999 season. The Longhorns enter the race ranked No. 11 in the country and No. 1 in the South Central region. UT will look to build on its fourth place finish at the Big 12 Championships a year ago in Stillwater, Okla. Paul Morrison (2003) and Joe Thorne (2005 and 2006) each came in second for the top finish in school history. Kevin Barra was a two-time top 10 finisher as he placed seventh in 2001 and ninth in 2002. He was joined in 2002 by Ben Dawson who came in eighth overall. In 2004 Mark Nichol (5th) and Matthew Munoz (13th) each ended up in the top 15. The 2005 season was one of the best overall for the Longhorns as Thorne was joined by Erik Stanley (3rd), Munoz (11th) and Kyle Miller (14th) among the top 15. Texas also had four runners in the top 15 in 2007 with Stanley (6th), Miller (7th), Leonel Manzano (9th) and Owen Washburn (14th). The top men's and women's teams are crowned league champions, while the top 15 individuals in each race earn All-Big 12 honors. The top newcomer in each race will earn Newcomer of the Year accolades.
