Men's Cross Country preview: UT vs. UTSA

Expected Texas participants: -The Longhorns Cross Country team will kick off the 2011 season this Thursday in San Antonio. Finishing 26th in the NCAA Championships last year and second in the NCAA Regional Championships, the Longhorns hope to continue their improvement this year as well. Texas enters the season 20th in the USTFCCCA's preseason poll and ranked second in the south central region. - Texas has steadily improved each year under fourth-year coach John Hayes. A year ago, the Horns advanced to their second-straight NCAA Championships as a team while finishing fourth at the Big 12s, an improvement from 2009. -The Horns return all five of their point scorers and six of their seven participants from the 2010 NCAA Championships in sophomore Ryan Dohner, junior Patrick McGregor, seniors Brock Simmons and Brian Rhodes-Devey and junior Collin Smith. Junior Austin Roth also returns having competed at the NCAA meet the last two seasons.
-Texas' incoming class is highlighted by some of the top distance runners from the state of Texas in Craig Lutz, Will Antkowiak, Mark Pinales and Kyle Thompson. -The next meet for the Longhorns on Friday, Sept. 30 for the Grass Routes Grand Prix held in Austin. |
