Manzano moves on to 1,500m final at World Championships

Texas Ex Leo Manzano clocked a 3:36.29 to finish second in his 1,500-meter semifinal heat and automatically qualify for the final at the 12th IAAF World Track & Field Championships in Berlin. Manzano ran in the second of two heats and his time was the second fastest of the day.
Kenya's Asbel Kiprop, the silver medalist in the 1,500m at the Beijing Olympics, had the day's fastest time with a 3:36.24.
Two of the three other Americans in the semifinal advanced to the final. Lopez Lomong, who is coached by UT assistant John Hayes, finished second in the first heat with a 3:36.75, while Bernard Lagat placed third in the first heat with a 3:36.86.
The 12-man final is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19 at 1:25 p.m. Central with TV coverage being presented by Versus.
