Aug. 17, 2008
BEIJING -- Former Longhorns Andra Manson (high jump) and Leo Manzano (1,500m) failed to advance in their respective events at the 2008 Beijing Olympics on Sunday.
While taking part in qualifying in the high jump, Manson cleared 2.25 meters, which ended up being the minimum height needed to make the final. But, with misses on his first attempts at 2.15 meters and 2.20 meters, Manson was unable to advance based on attempts.
Manzano, who reached the semifinals of the 1,500 meters by running a 3:36.67 on Friday, placed 12th in the second of two heats with a 3:50.33. He spent most of the first two laps towards the front of the pack, but was jostled a few times as the pace picked up and fell to the back.
Up next, Trey Hardee will represent the U.S. and Texas in the decathlon, which gets underway on Thursday, Aug. 21.
