Manzano advances to 1,500m semis at World Championships

Former Longhorn Leo Manzano placed second in heat one of the 1,500 meters to advance to the semifinals at the 12th IAAF World Track & Field Championships in Berlin, Germany. Manzano clocked a 3:42.87 to finish just behind France's Mehdi Baala, who finished in 3:42.77.

Ethiopia's Deresse Mekonnen had the day's fastest time with a 3:37.04.

In addition to Manzano, three other Americans advanced to the semifinals including Lopez Lomong, who is coached by UT assistant coach John Hayes, defending World Champion Bernard Lagat and Dorian Ulrey.

The semifinals of the 1,500m are scheduled for Monday, August 17 at 1:10 p.m. Central.
