Goodwin finishes fifth in long jump at Aviva London Grand Prix

LONDON - University of Texas junior Marquise Goodwin recorded a leap of 26-3.75 (8.02m) Friday afternoon to finish fifth overall at the Aviva London Grand Prix, which serves as one of the 14 Samsung Diamond League meets. The three-time All-American posted the mark on his fourth attempt. Australia's Mitchell Watt, who is the current world-leader, won the event with a jump of 27-8.75 (8.45m) while Great Britain's Chris Tomlinson and Greg Rutherford went 2-3 with marks of 27-2.75 (8.30m) and 26-10.5 (8.19m), respectively. The reigning Olympic champion, Irving Saladino (Panama), placed fourth with a 26-8.5 (8.14m). Up next for the 2011 U.S. Long Jump Champion will be the World University Games in Shenzhen, China (Aug. 12-23), which will be his final competition before heading to the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, Korea (Aug. 27-Sept. 4).
