Goodwin set to compete at Aviva London Grand Prix

Aug. 3, 2011

AUSTIN, Texas - University of Texas junior Marquise Goodwin will compete in the long jump at the Aviva London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace, this Friday, August 5. The meet will be Goodwin's first since winning the 2011 U.S. Long Jump National Championship in June.

The Grand Prix serves as one of the 14 Samsung Diamond League events and will feature four of the world's top 10 long jumpers including current world-leader Mitchell Watt (Australia).

Goodwin will use both the London meet along with the upcoming World University Games (Aug. 12-23, Shenzhen, China) as preparation for the IAAF World Championships, which he qualified for by winning the long jump national title at the U.S. Championships. The World Championships will be held in Daegu, Korea (DAY-goo), August 27-Sept. 4, with the long jump completion taking place Sept. 1-2.

The two-sport star has a personal-best of a slightly wind-aided 27-4 (8.33m/2.1 wind), which he reached at the U.S. meet in June.
