Bubba's Olympic experience: Jolly Old England

July 28, 2008

Hey fans,

The guys had a great meet in London. Again, the atmosphere was electric for the races. I think the fans across Europe are getting geared up for the Olympics. I hope the same is true in the States.

I think the best thing I saw at this meet was the execution. The guys executed the race very well. The red team won with a 37.80 and the blue team finished fourth in 38.42. The red team's time was the fastest in the world this year. The blue team is actually the only other squad to run a sub-38 second 4x1. They did that in Sweden.

I'm back in Texas right now with just enough time to get a few things taken care of. I've got to get everything in order because I'm going to be gone for so long. The countdown is on though. It's just a little over a week until the opening ceremonies and about two weeks until the track and field competition starts. I'm really looking forward to getting over there and getting this going.

I leave with Trey (Hardee), Andra (Manson) and Leo (Manzano) tomorrow. We'll go to San Jose for a day and then fly over to China. It's going to be a really proud time for me to travel with guys I coached and watch grow up at The University of Texas. That is one of the best things about coaching for me. I got a chance to see those guys grow during their collegiate careers and now I'm going to be right there with them when they step off the plane as Olympians in China. That's pretty awesome.

I'll check back in once we get settled over in China.
