Hernandez, Manzano advance at U.S. Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Texas Exes Jacob Hernandez and Leo Manzano both advanced to finals at the U.S. Championships on Friday. Hernandez has moved on through two rounds of 800-meter runs, while Manzano advanced out of the first round of the 1,500 meters. Hernandez finished second in his heat with a 1:47.37 to automatically qualify for the final. Earlier in the meet, he clocked a 1:47.28 to move from the first round to the semifinals. Manzano won his prelim heat with a 3:39.88 to advance to Sunday's final. Both Hernandez and Manzano won NCAA titles on the Drake University track in 2008. Hernandez nipped Oregon's Andrew Wheating in the 800 meters with a time of 1:45.31, UT's school record. Manzano claimed his second NCAA Championship in the 1,500 meters after clocking a 3:41.25. Hernandez and Manzano will be looking for their first U.S. Championships on Sunday. The 800 meters is scheduled for 2 p.m., while the 1,500 meters is set to run at 2:40 p.m. ESPN is broadcasting from 12-1:30 p.m. on Sunday and NBC will air events from 2-3 p.m.
