Ten Longhorns garner 2012 Outdoor All-America honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Texas Men's Track & Field team had 10 student-athletes earn 2012 Outdoor All-America honors following last week's National Championship meet in Des Moines, Iowa, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced this week. Earning First Team honors were junior Marquise Goodwin (long jump), sophomore Ryan Dohner (10,000m), junior Isaac Murphy (decathlon), junior Keiron Stewart (110m Hurdles), senior Jacob Thormaehlen (shot put) and freshman Ryan Crouser (discus). Goodwin won his second national championship in the long jump at last week's meet with a career-best leap of 8.23m (27-0.0). Dohner placed seventh in the 10,000m with his season-best time of 29:05.11. Murphy's 7,818-point performance in the decathlon earned him a spot in the top eight, as he took seventh. Stewart picked up his third-straight All-America honor in the 110m Hurdles, grabbing eighth in 14.08. Thormaehlen threw a 19.45m (63-9.75) mark in the shot put to net seventh place. Crouser's 59.77m (196-01) toss in the discus finals was a new career best and earned him fourth overall in the event. Crouser and junior Hayden Baillio earned Second Team honors in the shot put after finishing 16th (18.50m, 16-8.50) and ninth (19.26m, 63-2.25), respectively. They were joined on the second team by junior Patrick McGregor, who earned 16th in the 1500m, and freshman Petter Olson, who narrowly missed the decathlon podium with a ninth-place finish (7,746 points).
Goodwin, Thormaehlen, Crouser, Olson, Baillio and Murphy added their 2012 Outdoor honors to Indoor All-America accolades in their respective events in 2012. |
