Vote for UT's record-setting performances at Big12Sports.com
AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas fans have the opportunity to vote at for two record-setting performances from Longhorns teams registered during the 2007-08 season as the Big 12 Conference Men's Performance of the Year. Among the four nominees for Big 12 Men's Performance of the Year are the Texas men's swimming team's American record-setting 800-yard freestyle relay and the Texas men's track and field team's world record-setting performance in the distance medley relay. UT's Dave Walters, Matt McGinnis, Michael Klueh and Ricky Berens of men's swimming set a new American record in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a mark of 6:10.55 set on Feb. 27 at the Big 12 Championships in Austin. The time easily broke the previous American-record time of 6:14.14 set last November by Michael Phelps, Peter Vanderkaay, Davis Tarwater and Chris DeJong. UT's Kyle Miller, Danzell Fortson, Jacob Hernandez and Leo Manzano of men's track and field smashed the world record in the distance-medley relay on Feb. 16 at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., clocking 9:25.97 to break the previous world record by nearly 11 seconds. The winner will be announced on FSN's Big 12 Showcase program on June 27.
