Graduation diary - Brandon Drenon
May 21, 2011
Hey Longhorn fans! Well, I can't believe it's finally here. I'm graduating and getting my degree from the University of Texas. It's an exciting feeling and I'm really glad that my family is here with me to celebrate. Despite it being graduation day, the track and field season is still underway as we have the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds next week in Eugene, Ore. So today started with practice and then treatment before I got to start preparing for graduation. It means a whole lot to finally graduate. From birth, my parents have instilled in me the importance of education and so to be able to graduate from one of the finest institutions in the country is very rewarding. I'm very appreciative for it and happy to be here and finally reach this point. With me today, I have more people than I can count on my hands and yours. We have 60 people confirmed for our celebration dinner tonight and here with me now is my immediate family. My mom, my dad, my brothers, my sister, two friends from Notre Dame and my grandparents, so I've got a big posse with me today. Then tonight we'll be going to a restaurant with some good soul food to celebrate. My time here at Texas has been amazing. I'm so thankful for my coaches and my teammates for giving me such a great college experience. I wouldn't trade it for anything. Thanks to everyone for all of your support throughout the years and keep rooting for us next week and in June at the NCAA Championships! Hook'em!
