NCAA West Preliminary selections announced

NCAA West Preliminary Round Information AUSTIN, Texas – The NCAA released its competitors list for the NCAA West Preliminary Round that will take place in Austin May 24-26 at Mike A. Myers Stadium. There will be 48 competitors in each event and 106 schools represented on the men’s side. The top 12 at the NCAA Preliminary Round will advance to the NCAA Championships June 6-9 in Des Moines, Iowa. The NCAA West Preliminary Round will begin on Thursday, May 24 with the men’s javelin at 11 a.m. The first running event will be the 400m hurdles at 4:30 p.m. Friday starts at 11 a.m. with the women’s discus and running begins at 5 p.m. with the men’s 110m hurdles. On Saturday the first event is the men’s discus at 11 a.m. The final day of running events kicks off at 6 p.m. with the men’s 4x100m relay. Texas will have 23 athletes in individual events and one relay in action with UT being represented in 14 different events. Some notables for the Longhorns include Big 12 Champions Marquise Goodwin, Mark Jackson and Jacob Thormaehlen. Goodwin has the No. 2 long jump mark at the meet at 8.19m while Jackson swept the indoor and outdoor titles in the triple jump. Thormaehlen is the nation’s leader in the shot put at 20.31m and is one of only two individuals to throw over 20 meters this season. Also of note Texas’ decathletes Isaac Murphy and Petter Olson will be among the 24 competing at the NCAA Championships in the event as the decathlon is not contested at the Preliminary Rounds. Murphy is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the event while Olson is No. 7 overall.
