Men's Track and Field lands 11 on Academic All-Big 12 teams

The University of Texas men's track and field team landed 11 student-athletes on the 2009 Academic All-Big 12 teams, the conference office has announced. Leading the Longhorns were seniors Jacob Hernandez and Kyle Miller. Hernandez, a two-time National Champion, earned his first Academic All-Big 12 honor, while Miller, a six-time All-Big 12 performer, notched his third Academic All-Big 12 honor. Joining Hernandez and Miller on the first team were juniors Saviour Achilike and Shawn Schmidt, sophomores Kenny Greaves and Brad Lowry and redshirt freshman John Osborn. In addition, four Longhorns were named to the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team. That group included senior Dustin Bynum, junior Habben Berhane and sophomores Andre Thomas and Rob Wetzel. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team features student-athletes maintaining a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or during the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests. Athletes are nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices. Freshmen and transfer student-athletes are not eligible during their first year of academic residence.
