AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas Men’s Track and Field team placed nine student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 teams, the conference announced Tuesday. The Longhorns landed five First Team selections and earned four Second Team honors.
Among the First Team selections were seniors Habben Berhane, Brandon Drenon and Bradley Lowry, junior Kenny Greaves and sophomore Marquise Goodwin. This is the sixth career honor for Berhane, the third for Greaves and Lowry and the second for Drenon. Goodwin picks up his first Academic All-Big 12 honor with track and field but was also an All-Big 12 Football First Team selection in 2010.
On the second team are seniors Dereck Dreyer, Danzell Fortson and Andre Thomas and sophomore Keiron Stewart. This marks the third Academic All-Big 12 honor for Thomas and the second for Fortson. It is the first career selection for Dreyer and Stewart.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the men's track & field academic all-league squad consisted of 111 first team recipients and 27 student-athletes on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
