Men’s Track and Field notebook: May 3

AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas men’s track and field team moved up to No. 3 in the latest national rankings released by the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association).  The Longhorns trail only top-ranked Florida State and second-ranked LSU in the team rankings.

UT holds the No. 4 spot in the Trackwire.com rankings.  The web site determines its rankings based on its projected finishes in each event at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  Trackwire projects eight top-five finishes for the Longhorns, including a first-place finish in the decathlon for senior Trey Hardee (Birmingham, Ala.), the defending NCAA champion.

Longhorns Own 10 Top-10 National Marks

Texas holds 10 top-10 national marks, including the top national mark in the decathlon for collegiate record holder Trey Hardee.  UT’s distance-medley relay team of sophomores Jake Morse (Arlington, Texas), Joseph Davis (San Antonio, Texas), Kyle Miller (Katy, Texas) and Leonel Manzano (Marble Falls, Texas) set the nation’s top mark to win the event last weekend at the Penn Relays in 9:33.10, though the DMR is not an event contested at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
