Wilson leads Men's Track and Field at Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational
PALO ALTO, Calif. -- University of Texas junior Ryan Wilson (Wichita, Kan.) won his section of the 3000-meter steeplechase to lead Texas Sunday night at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational at Stanford's Cobb Track. Wilson clocked a personal-best time of 8:54.77 to win the event and garner a NCAA regional-qualifying mark.Notably, in section one of the 3000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Jake Morse (Arlington, Texas) and senior Mark Floreani (Chicago, Ill.) topped Wilson's time in placing 10th and 12th, respectively. Morse clocked a NCAA regional-qualifying time of 8:47.86, while Floreani timed at 8:52.81 for a NCAA regional mark. Freshman Luke Hansen (The Woodlands, Texas) continued his steady improvement in the 1500 meters with a third-place time of 3:52.70, good for a new personal best.Senior Tomas Finol (Spring, Texas) added a fourth-place time of 1:53.54 in the 800 meters. Junior Matt Munoz (Kingwood, Texas) placed fifth in his section of the 5000 meters with a NCAA regional-qualifying time of 14:08.45. Texas returns to action on Friday, May 5 at the Houston Invitational.
