Three from Men's Track and Field qualify at Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. -- Three student-athletes from the fifth-ranked Texas men's track and field team added their names to the list of NCAA regional qualifiers at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational at Cobb Track late Sunday night (April 28). UT now has 21 NCAA qualifiers with one meet on the schedule before the 2007 Big 12 Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships from Friday-Sunday, May 11-13 in Lincoln, Neb.

Senior Darren Brown (Spring, Texas) met the NCAA region standard in the 1,500-meter run, clocking 3:42.57 and earning fifth-place on UT's all-time top 10 Longhorns performers' list. The season-best time for Brown is also the second fastest on the team. He is the third Texas runner this year to qualify in the event joining junior national champion Leo Manzano (Marble Falls, Texas) and classmate Erik Stanley (Spring, Texas).

Senior Ryan Wilson (Wichita, Kan.) improved his NCAA region mark in the steeplechase, finishing 10th in 8:52.68. His time is three seconds faster than his prior lifetime best mark of 8:55.33 and moves him into 10th on the top 10 Longhorns performers list.

In the 5,000-meter run, senior transfer Owen Washburn (Amherst, Mass.) took 10th in the 5,000-meter run in 14:06.74. The 2006 Brown graduate shaved 34 seconds off his season-opening time from the Texas Relays (14:40.90).
