Men's Track and Field wins five events at Michael Johnson Classic
April 23, 2011 Results | Results in PDF Format WACO, Texas - Texas Men's Track and Field team recorded five event victories Saturday at the Michael Johnson Classic in Waco, Texas. The Longhorn distance group led the way with three victories as CJ Jessett won the evening running of the 1,500 meters, clocking 3:50.08, Habben Berhane finished first in the 5,000 meters in 14:43.32 and Collin Smith earned his first collegiate victory in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:35.95. In the shot put, sophomore Hayden Baillio claimed the top spot as he tossed 60-10 (18.54m). Jacob Thormaehlen posted a fifth-place finish with a throw of 57-1.50 (17.41m) and Brandon Drenon finished 10th with a mark of 53-10.25 (16.41m). Isaac Murphy won the afternoon 110-meter hurdles, clocking a wind-aided time of 14.66. Fellow decathlete Kenny Greaves finished sixth, clocking a wind-aided 15.60. Both of the Texas relays, the 4x100-meter relay and 4x440-yard relay finished second. The 4x100-meter relay team of Alex Williams, Trevante Rhodes, Marquise Goodwin and D.J. Monroe clocked 39.45, while the 4x440-yard relay squad of Andre Thomas, Isaac Murphy, Keiron Stewart and Danzell Fortson ran a 3:09.69. Stewart also competed in the 110-meter hurdles where he finished second in 13.74 and the 400-meter hurdles where he posted a personal-best time of 51.67 to finish third. Freshman Mark Jackson achieved a personal best in the long jump with a leap of 25-0 (7.62m) to place second in the event. Jackson also finished second in the afternoon running of the 100 meters with a wind-aided time of 10.49. Sophomore Emerson Sanders also posted a personal best in the long jump with a leap of 23-11.50 (7.30m), placing ninth. Senior Jamal Wilson cleared 7-0.50 (2.15m) to take second place in the high jump and Kenny Greaves jumped 16-10.75 (5.15m), finishing second in the pole vault. Freshman Mark Thomas cleared 16-6.75 (5.05m), tying for third. In the triple jump, Jarard Bruner leaped a personal best 49-0.25 (14.94m) to place sixth. In the evening 100 meters, Marquise Goodwin finished fifth in 10.42, while Trevante Rhodes came in sixth (10.45), D.J. Monroe finished 10th (10.59) and Alex Williams finished 11th (10.61). Rhodes also finished fifth in the 200 meters, clocking 21.34. Up next for the Longhorns are the Penn Relays, held April 27-30 in Philadelphia.
