Men's Distance Runners to Oregon Invitational
A group of 15 distance runners will travel to Eugene, Ore. to compete at the Oregon Invitational on Saturday, April 23. Groups of five runners will be competing in the 1,500 meters, the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 5,000 meters. The meet is being held at Oregon's Hayward Field and results will be available on www.TexasSports.com at the conclusion of the meet.

The Texas women won seven events and recorded 15 NCAA regional qualifying marks. Michelle Carter earned victories in the shot put and discus to highlight action in the field for the Longhorns, while All-Americans Sanya Richards and Nichole Denby posted first-place finishes in the 200m and 100-meter hurdles, respectively. The women's also received victories from LaTashia Kerr in the 400 meters, Jerrika Chapple in the Invitational 400 meters and the 4x100-meter relay team.

On the same weekend, the men's team won six events at the TCU Invitational. Brian Robison posted two of the Longhorns' 11 NCAA regional qualifiers in winning the shot put and discus. Tom Engwall also posted a regional qualifier in winning the javelin. Other winners were Andra Manson (High Jump), Charlie Kourvelas (1,500m) and the 4x100-meter relay team.

The Texas women's track and field team was named the Most Outstanding team and sophomore Marshevet Hooker earned Most Outstanding female performer as a record-crowd of 22,500 witnessed the conclusion of the 78th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Saturday, April 9. The Texas men notched 12 qualifiers over the course of the four-day event to go along with freshman Leonel Manzano's victory in the mile, while the women's team posted 16 qualifiers.

Hooker earned the top female honor after winning the long jump earlier in the meet, then placing second in today's 100-meter dash with a personal-best 11.03. She also anchored Texas to victories in the 4x100 and 4x200-meter relays with clockings of 43.25 and 1:31.97. The time in the 4x100 was the fastest recorded so far this season.

The Texas women won the 4x400-meter relay in 3:31.29 with junior Jerrika Chapple providing the fastest Longhorn split at 52.2. The Longhorns also swept the hurdles events with junior Ashlee Williams (Dallas, Texas) winning the 100-meter hurdles in a world-leading 12.83, while classmate Melaine Walker (Kingston, Jamaica) took the 400-meter hurdles by almost a second and a half with a regional-qualifying time of 55.37. Carlee Clark had the other UT victory during the Texas Relays, winning the B section of the 1,500 meters in 4:35.06.

Sophomore Michelle Carter (Ovilla, Texas) posted two regional qualifiers during the Relays with throws of 53-2.25 in the shot put and 171-0 in the discus. Freshman Ashley Laughlin (Marble Falls, Texas) also had a regional qualifier in the pole vault with a clearance of 12-5.50.

The men posted three victories during the Relays to go along with their 12 qualifiers. Manzano's victory in the mile added to his outstanding freshman campaign that has seen him win the Big 12 indoor championship in the mile, while being named the Big 12 Freshman Indoor Performer of the Year. The Longhorns already received victories from junior Trey Hardee (Birmingham, Ala.) in the decathlon and sophomore Ryan Wilson (Wichita, Kan.) in Section B of the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

In other action on Saturday, freshman Hamza Deyaf (Richardson, Texas) turned in an excellent performance in the 400-meter hurdles with a regional-qualifying 51.52. He won his heat by .01 seconds and ended up third overall in the event. Sophomore Andra Manson (Brenham, Texas) posted a regional-qualifier of 7-2.50 in the high jump, while junior Brian Robison (Splendora, Texas) notched regional qualifiers in the shot put and discus over the final two days of competition. Junior Brandon Mahler (Seagraves, Texas) and sophomore Brandon McFarling (College Station, Texas) each reached the regional-qualifying mark in the pole vault by clearing 16-6.75.

The 4x100-meter relay of juniors Michael Huff (Irving, Texas), Quincy Boles (Haker Heights, Texas), Ronald Hill (Walnut, Calif.) and Hardee blazed to their best time of the season with a 39.80 on Saturday. Boles also recorded a personal best in the 100 meters with a clocking of 10.29
