At the 2006 Texas Relays, Texas-ex Trey Hardee (Birmingham, Ala.) won eight of 10 decathlon events en route to setting the NCAA collegiate decathlon record with a final score of 8465 points. The success continued as the UT's men's distance-medley relay won for the first time in nearly 60 years (since 1948) and then-junior Andra Manson (Brenham, Texas) won his third Texas Relays championship (two in high school; one in college).
Through four meets in the early 2007 campaign, UT has six student-athletes who have accumulated 11 NCAA regional qualifying marks in their respective events. Seniors Hamza Deyaf (Richardson, Texas), Samyr Laine (Newburgh, N.Y.) and Derek Randall (Beeville, Texas), and juniors Joseph Davis (San Antonio, Texas) Joel Hargett (Conroe, Texas), and John Rouse (Kaufman, Texas) have a spot on the NCAA Midwest Region travel roster.
Additionally, senior Andrew Middleton (College Station, Texas) met the NCAA provisional standard in the 10,000-meter run which places him in the at-large pool for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
