Men's Track and Field preview: Texas Invitational
AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas men's track and field squad hosts its first of four outdoor meets scheduled at UT's Mike A. Myers Stadium this season when it welcomes four teams for the Texas Invitational. The meet begins Saturday, March 25 at 11 a.m. CST with the javelin and concludes at approximately 5:25 p.m. with the 4x400-meter relay. Texas A&M, Texas-San Antonio, Texas State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will join the host Longhorns. Heat sheets will be available Friday at TexasSports.com. Admission is free for all fans. UT prepares for its second indoor meet after winning four events and posting seven NCAA regional-qualifying marks on Saturday, March 18 at the Hurricane Invitational in Miami. Senior Ryan Ponsonby (Denton, Texas) captured the 800 meters and broke the meet record with a time of 1:50.51. Sophomore Hamza Deyaf (Richardson, Texas) captured the 400-meter hurdles, and sophomore Joel Hargett (Conroe, Texas) claimed the long jump. UT's 4x100-meter relay quartet of senior Quincy Boles (Harker Heights, Texas), senior Trey Griffin (Lockhart, Texas), junior Andra Manson (Brenham, Texas) and senior Ronald Hill (Walnut, Calif.) took first in a NCAA regional-qualifying time of 39.99. Texas captured 11 events at the 2005 Texas Invitational. Quincy Boles and Brian Robison led UT with two victories apiece. Boles captured the 100 and 200-meter events, while Robison claimed the shot put and discus.
