Men's Track & Field tied for third in program of the year standings

March 14, 2012

AUSTIN, Texas - After the conclusion of the indoor men's track & field season, the University of Texas is tied for third in the John McDonnell Program of the Year Award Standings.

Leading the standings is Indiana with 13 points. Sitting second is Stanford with 16 points and Texas is tied with BYU for third with 18 points. Rounding out the top five is Florida State with 21 points. The point totals are derived from the addition of the final placing at the NCAA Championships for both cross country and indoor track and field.

Last weekend at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, Texas finished in seventh place and had eight individuals earn All-American honors. It was the eighth time in the last nine years the Longhorns earned a top 10 placing at the national meet.

Back in the fall UT claimed 11th place at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. The Longhorns were led by freshman Craig Lutz who garnered an All-American selection as Texas improved 15 places from the previous year in the meet.
