Kilmartin places fifth at IAAF World Championships
VALENCIA, Spain -- Redshirt senior Donovan Kilmartin finished in the top five in the heptathlon on Sunday at the 2008 International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Indoor Track and Field Championships. Kilmartin (Eagle, Idaho) placed fifth, scoring 5,951points in just his second meet of the season. Fellow American Brian Clay won the 2008 World Indoor title with a world-leading point total of 6,371. He opened the day with an 8.25-second performance in the 60-meter hurdles. In the pole vault, he cleared a height of 16 feet, 8.75 inches (5.10m). In the final event, the 1,000-meter run, Kilmartin clocked career-best time of 2:51.54 for fifth in the event. The Longhorns close the indoor season with the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at Randal Tyson Track Center from Friday-Saturday, March 14-15 in Fayetteville, Ark. Final NCAA qualifiers will be announced on Monday, March 10.
